How long does dietitian credentialing take?
Timing varies by payer, state, application completeness, network availability, and provider type. Commercial payer reviews often take several weeks and may take 90–120 days or longer; government program timelines also vary. We prepare the file, document submission, respond to requests, and follow up, but the payer controls the approval date.
What documents are required for dietitian credentialing?
Common items include an individual NPI, active RD or RDN credential, applicable state license or certification, CAQH profile, CV, professional liability coverage, W-9, tax and practice information, and disclosure responses. A payer may request additional records based on the plan, state, specialty, or practice structure.
Do dietitians need a CAQH profile?
Many commercial health plans use CAQH Provider Data Portal to collect credentialing information. It is not universal, but a complete profile can support multiple payer applications. CAQH requires providers to review and re-attest their information every 120 days, even when nothing has changed.
Can you credential a dietitian with multiple insurance companies?
Yes. We can coordinate applications across multiple eligible payer networks and keep payer-specific requirements, submission dates, requests, and outcomes organized. Participation still depends on each plan’s network needs and credentialing criteria.
Do nutritionists need to be credentialed with insurance companies?
It depends on the person’s credential, state authorization, payer policy, and the services being billed. The titles “nutritionist” and “dietitian” are not interchangeable in every state or payer program. Many plans require an RD or RDN credential and any applicable state license. We review the provider’s qualifications before recommending an enrollment path.
Can you help with Medicare enrollment for dietitians?
Yes. Medicare Part B recognizes registered dietitians and qualified nutrition professionals who meet federal requirements as eligible suppliers of medical nutrition therapy. Covered MNT is limited by Medicare rules and generally requires a qualifying diagnosis and referral.
