How long does speech therapist credentialing take?
Timing varies by payer, state, and application completeness. Commercial enrollment often takes 60–120 days, although some files move faster or take longer. Medicare and Medicaid follow their own review processes, so practices should plan ahead and avoid treating any estimate as a guarantee.
What documents are required for speech therapy credentialing?
Common requirements include an active state license, NPI, education and work history, liability insurance, practice and tax details, professional references, disclosure responses, and a current CAQH profile when the payer uses CAQH. Each payer may request additional records.
Do speech therapists need a CAQH profile?
Many commercial health plans use CAQH ProView to collect credentialing information, so an accurate, attested profile is often required. Medicare enrollment does not use CAQH; it is generally completed through PECOS or the applicable CMS forms.
Can you credential a speech therapist with multiple insurance companies?
Yes. Applications can be coordinated across several commercial plans and government programs at the same time. Each payer still makes its own participation decision and may have a closed network in a particular market.
Do speech-language pathology assistants need to be credentialed with insurance companies?
