How long does lactation consultant credentialing take?

What documents are required for lactation consultant credentialing?
Common requests include an NPI, IBCLC or other accepted lactation credential, any applicable professional or state license, CAQH profile, work history, professional liability insurance, W-9, practice details, and identification. The exact list varies by payer and by whether you also practice as an RN, NP, CNM, PA, or physician.
Do lactation consultants need a CAQH profile?
Many commercial plans use CAQH DataSpring to collect provider information, but it is not universal and state Medicaid programs generally use their own enrollment systems. We confirm whether each target plan requires CAQH and help keep the profile complete and attested.
Can you credential a lactation consultant with multiple insurance companies?

Do non-IBCLC lactation counselors or specialists need to be credentialed with insurance companies?
Requirements for CLCs, CLSs, CLEs, and other lactation professionals differ widely. Some plans or state Medicaid programs recognize specific credentials, while others require IBCLC certification, another healthcare license, or supervision by an enrolled clinician. We review the rules before filing.
Can you help with Medicare enrollment for lactation consultants?
We can assess the provider’s complete professional profile, but Original Medicare generally does not enroll an IBCLC solely on the basis of the lactation credential for independent reimbursement. A separately recognized Medicare provider type may have a different pathway, and Medicare Advantage rules vary by plan.
